My name is Michele Crockett. I have a BS in Elementary and Special Education, and a MED in school guidance counseling. During the 25 years I worked in education I served on various commitees and was an elementary school counselor.
Presently I am retired!
In 2008 my son, Max Gilpin, died of an exertional heat stroke. After his death I felt it was neccessary to bring more awareness to heat illnesses so I created the nonprofit, The Max Gilpin "Beat the Heat" Foundation. We worked to raise funding for education and supplies that would support sports teams in the treatment of heat related illnesses. After 3 years it was decided to dissolve our foundation and join with Children's Hospital Foundation which supports Norton Children's Hospital. We now have a Max Gilpin Beat the Heat Fund set up under the Children's Hospital Foundation. We have one major fundraising event per year in August that not only helps The Max Gilpin Fund but also other areas of Norton Children's Hospital. I continue to have a school couselor's "heart", and am excited to be given the opportunity to help these families during their battle with childhood cancer.
