Blood Oath pact 6-Each Blood Oath Pact features a unique blend of different aged bourbons, and their two most recent releases have also featured barrel finishes. Overall Pact No. 6 with its Cognac finish is a flavorful barrel finished bourbon that drinks easy thanks to its sweet palate. Its Cognac finish is surprisingly inoffensive, well integrated, and long lasting. A bit more intensity all around would have made this truly shine, but nevertheless it’s a well-crafted whiskey. $300

Heaven Hill Select 20th Fire Anniversary/-limited-edition Bourbon commemorates the 20th anniversary of the 1996 Heaven Hill Distillery fire that destroyed the distillery and several warehouses. The whiskey comes from four barrels bottled in March of 1996 and matured in a warehouse that was next to those destroyed in the fire.

The nose is aromatic and smoky with notes of roasted corn, caramel, molasses cookies, charred oak, and pipe tobacco. The taste is smoky and spicy with charred oak, cinnamon, clove, caramel cola, molasses, and a touch of dark chocolate. The finish is long and woody with a touch of smokiness, caramel cola, and molasses. It’s a bit oaky, but if you like that sort of thing, go for it!

Old Fitzgerald 16 year bottled in bond-Some bottles of bourbon are all about power, this is about subtle, elegant grace. The nose mixes fresh and dried fruit, with notes of dried apricots and apple peel, followed by caramel, and a faint whiff of toasted oak. The palate is similarly concentrated and complex. It has a butterscotch core, seasoned with (more) dried apples, raisins, vanilla, and black pepper. Each sip lasts an age and is an event by its own right.
