Target House at St. Jude Hospital is a St. Jude owned and operated family housing complex. Families assigned to live at Target House are those families expected to be on campus for at least 3 months up to 3 years while their child undergoes treatment. Children range in age from newborn to age 19.
Target House features 98 fully-furnished, two-bedroom apartments that offer privacy, independence and a supportive environment. Each apartment is equipped with wireless internet access, full kitchen (including cookware, dinnerware, glassware and flatware), one queen and two twin beds, bath and bed linens, sofa and an entertainment center.
Although the St. Jude Hospital commercial says that families pay for nothing while at St, Jude, that only applies to families while their child is admitted to the hospital. At Target House meals, household goods and items like Christmas gifts are the responsibility of the families.
Many families struggle to afford such things as families often lose one or both incomes to be with their child while receiving treatment. Donors and organizations like ours often provide items needed by the families.
When Childhood Cancer Family Fund was founded we met with Target House staff and asked what they needed most. They told us they needed help with gift donations for the free Christmas shop set up for the families each year. They explained that they do not get enough donations to cover needed gifts so they spend thousands of dollars each year from other budget areas to make up the difference. Gifts for teens and young adults are the least donated gifts.
Our sole mission is to provide Christmas gifts for the pediatric cancer patients and their families living at Target House. 100% of money and gift donations go toward fulfilling our mission.
